Current
drummer in The Good Time Charlies (or GTC), quoted as being Portsmouth’s
best kept secret (only ‘cos no one else has heard of them!)
Andy has been playing, or attempting to play, drums since the early
'80s.
Fed on a constant
diet of punk rock and the belief that it doesn’t matter if
you can’t actually play, Andy has at least tried to improve
over the years and let’s face it quite a few have gone by
since then!
Andy’s
previous bands have included surf instrumentalists TV21 (single
of the month in Record Collector Magazine no less), aswell as numerous
punk rock groups and rhythm & blues bands. Andy has always returned
to his first love of trashy punk rock though and this where GTC
is currently at.
Two
successful independent releases (on self released, the other on
a small label based in Toulouse) have now been followed by the new
album "Gentlemen Letting Off Steam", which is well worth
a listen!
The
Charlies have played with some well known names and in several countries,
currently being quite popular in France. A further mini French tour
is being scheduled for next May to take in a couple of festivals.
Andy
uses a Tama kit, Saluda cymbals and several of his own self
built snares. A retro style kit is next for him to
build, with wooden hoops and Hayman style lugs.
Check
out these guys: The
Good time Charlies, withsome great tracks to
download and a list of gigs that would make most bands weak at the
knees!
