We
make drum shells and, if required complete drums -
Why do people buy BDB drums?
Because we will make any size they can dream up or
we can try to re create a vintage drum.
Many projects only require a BDB shell because the fittings
and finish are already sorted -
but as the man said -
"if you have a problem and no one else can help" - give us
a shout.
Pink
or what?
Tiny
tom
Well
!
Here
is a new project - That's based on a really old drum design
- Well
lets hear Paul describe his project :
I am not sure of the finish on it
as it is heavily textured, it had been painted gloss cream in the
recent past but a little scraping
showed that it was originaly white on the outside and silver on
the bottom rim and inside. So that is how I painted it. The head
is lapped directly to the hoop and fastened with square headed nails.
The lugs are formed from sheet brass with a turned trunion, the
claws are the same as on the bass drum and also are used on a 50s
Autocrat kit that I have so they should not be hard to find the
T screws are nickel plated and should not pose too much of a problem.
These toms were listed in 13, 15 & 17", mine is actually
14" across the head but 15" accross the outside of the
rim, so I guess that the 13" size would have a 12" head.
All had 6 tensioners.
Perhaps you could give me a price for a shell and rim to suit a
modern 12" head (I like FibreSkyn 3s). If you have any suitable
claws, etc. that would reduce my searching.
aaaaa
And
here is Paul's shell and very thin hoop
This
is new - a BDB thin shell snare -
Only
3mm thick for extreme resonance, but with mighty support rings
of 4.5 and 6mm.
Not sure who this is aimed at? Studio use maybe Anyway this is
the raw shell - unsanded and all messy. More pics to follow as
it reaches completion.
Shells
ready for sanding, the small tom has bearing edges cut and will
be used with these very thin (Claw tensioning) hoops.
When
you are enjoying yourself, it's difficult to stop - so while putting
this "Rock" shell together for Jack Jewell I decided to
try out the new BDB Nylatron lugs and floating tensioning system.
This is just a mock up to test strength and tuning techniques but
so far so good...
The
downside of an extra inch - of Birch in the middle of the shell
is that the planned
"Jackson Pollock" design will be cut in half!
The artist is not amused.
Ah,
man management! Just gave him some more paint and wood - keep him
happy for hours.
